Concert and Chamber Choir
I am the director of chamber and concert choir.
Concert choir is a place for students who love to sing, but maybe are not as competitive or do not want to sing solos at district level. Concert choir is also a place where students move at a slightly slower pace (easier sight reading passages, slower development of tone and sound, easier pieces of music for concerts and contests) and no student auditions are required. Concert choir also has less expectations of extra/outside performances (such as the national anthem, community performances, caroling, etc.) Every student is welcome here and all students can learn to sing, as we will start with the basics and build up.
Chamber choir is an auditioned choir class. I plan to hold auditions the 2nd to last week of May where students sing a song of their choice by themselves (it can be a pop song, choir song, church song, etc.), sight read a small passage, and do a memory pattern game. Chamber choir is also a faster moving class (harder sight reading, faster development of tone and sound, harder pieces of music for concerts and contests). Students in Chamber choir are expected to compete at districts in some way (groups or solos) and are expected to work toward more performance opportunities (national anthem at games, community performances, caroling, etc.).
